Six Puerto Rican Eco-Designers featured in
Kate McGregor owner of Kaight the pioneer retailer in the eco - fashion movement is hosting the first Urban Tropical Pop Up Shop featuring six emerging sustainably minded clothing and jewelry labels from Puerto Rico.
From Saturday, June 15th, to Sunday June 22nd, Brooklynites and Manhattanites alike can shop from a selection of indie fashion and jewelry from Puerto Rico, curated by local eco-designer, Auralís Herrero-Lugo for Puerto Rico Diseña in New York.
Jewelry designers who embrace sustainability in their work will be showcased including Raiza Ascanio’s organic cotton and hemp knots necklaces and Fililí’s tribal inspired designs made from recycled fabrics and metals to Swish Wish’s contemporary and minimalist take on weaponry and earthy necklaces using crystals.
The shop will feature clothing designed and made in Puerto Rico by three of the island’s earth friendly fashion designers including Sally Torres Vega’s intricately sculpture-like silhouettes woven with natural fibres and high-quality craftsmanship, Consuelo’s silk cross back dresses and tops and everyone’s favorite for summer, the Auralís’ jumper.
There will be a kick off event on Saturday June 15, 2013 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm with Puerto Rican rum infused cocktails and appearances by all designers. The store is located on 382 Atlantic Avenue and will be open from 11:30-7:30pm.
